Couldn’t agree more. When was the last time a show ever showed such a broad range of music? I recall also seeing the Residents and Conway Twitty on that show. In the same episode no less. It’s things like this that make it clear how bad and bland TV has become.
Saw them do this at Merriweather Post in ’89. Got a great reaction. I was standing next to two black guys who were working at MPP and they loved it, wanted to know where to get ahold of cd. Told me they thought they’d be bored out of their minds with the hippie shit but if the Garcia guy was as good as these two dudes it was gonna be a fun night.
