Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Bobby Has A New Song, And It’s Good, And You Should Listen To It

Here it is. It’s a cowboy song, which there are not enough of in this world, regardless of what Billy may think. The song is called Only A River, and it is about a river. Bobby is a Grateful Dead, you see, and they are legally required to sing songs about rivers. Also, trains.

Go listen to Bobby’s song.

  1. I don’t really see how it’s a cowboy song, tho he can call it that. It’s real nice acoustic Americana tho. I like it too, and I’m kind of a notorious hater when it comes to post-Garcia everything.

To me this suits him much better than being a rocker does these days. It’s a nice look for him and a good sound.

    • Yep I was surprised that I really enjoyed it. Great production. But the “cowboy” advertising had me expecting at least a little lap steel or a fiddle or something or something, haha.

Bobby’s moving into late Johnny Cash territory or something. It’s pretty cool he’s been working on such a wide range of different stuff lately.

  2. Well, there is a pedal steel in there. But I’ll bet a penny to a pound that Bob was not wearing cowboy boots when he recorded that tune.

    • Haha, I shouldn’t post stuff like that working from memory after one listen..

Yeah, it doesn’t sound like Marty Robbins but it’s good whatever it is. I agree this sound suits Bobby these days more than half-tempo stadium rock.

    Can the reverb be reduced???

    • But then it wouldn’t sound all edgy and cryptic!

Seriously though, I think Dylan and Cash made a rule that, after age 55 or so, you have to turn the reverb up all the way up for slow tunes.
