Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Let’s Hear It For The Girls

This is Frances Xavier Cabrini, also known as Mother Cabrini. She was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the Pope sent her to New York in 1889 because she was the type of person who could get things done. She did: orphanages and hospitals and clinics and schools. She died in Chicago, and was the first American immigrant to be made a saint.

This is Madeleine Albright, who is wearing a lovely hat. She was born in Prague in 1937; this was a terrible time to be born in Prague, especially if you were Jewish, which she was. Her family went to England, and then America. She was the first female Secretary of State.

This is Salma Hayek. She escaped poverty and oppression as a Mexican soap opera star, fleeing across the border in a first-class seat on an AeroMexico 757.

Immigrants: kind, smart, and hot.

it’s funny how things evolve. cabrini tower (original site of St. Cabrini Hospital) in Seattle is home to the HIV Vaccine Trials Unit. great view of Rainier on the 13th floor (yes 13th floor). their work is not limited to vaccine trials, as they provide healthcare, education, and a strong community presence (check out the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence https://www.thesisters.org).
