Speaking of Jane’s Addiction: this is the best Dead cover of all time. No snark or sarcasm about Best EVAR or whatever. This is the shit; listen to it all the way to the end for the Big Show Biz Finish.

absolutely. the perfect cover. thank you for reminding me.
Pretty Other Oneish finish for sure. GD & JA kind of owned me for awhile there in the 90s. I was so happy when this came out. And I was so happy when Jerry Garcia name-checked Jane’s Addiction in a Rolling Stone interview about new bands he liked.
When they were great, they were really great. And they managed with ease the one necessity of a cover: make it one’s own. Ripple. Rock n Roll. Sympathy for the Devil. Whole Lot of Love. Even that played-for-laughs Bob Dylan/Bauhaus mashup (before they called em mashups.) Age and LA schlock (as opposed to LA sleaze- the good kind) may have settled in, but they had their moment and it was glorious.
I confess I didn’t like this when it came out. Not enough choogle for my taste in the early ’90’s. I have come to realize it’s brilliance. I love the lone bird song riff in the other one ending.
