Sometimes onstage, Bobby could see, really see. His eyeline would clear out to the horizon and beyond: he could see the morning and the next night; he could see the good times and the bad that would surely follow; he could see small wadis of compassion in the desert of indifference man has blasted out of the Earth.

Sometimes onstage, Bobby could see forever.
