Hey, Garcia. You having–
“You need to write about the last night of Chicago. You left people hanging, man.”
Get stuffed.
“Okay, you can do that. But, you know: I got a guitar and a koi pond and I’ll be just fine.”
…
I want a guitar and a koi pond.
“Not a bad deal, I gotta tell ya.”
For the record, this photo was taken by Dennis Callahan on June 11, 1981. Blair Jackson and I concluded the interview we had started on 4/28, and Dennis shot photos for the cover of BAM Magazine. This was Rock Scully’s house on Hepburn Heights in San Rafael; Jerry lived in the downstairs apartment.
That’s a phrase that you could not say about many rock stars: “lived in the downstairs apartment.”
He had what he needed, I guess.
Also: Gans, you found some seriously fucked-up fruit and the picture of the watermelon in particular scared me.
