Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

Say Hey, And Then Say Of Fucking Course

If you’re on Instagram, you should follow the San Francisco Chronicle‘s vault account: pictures and covers from days gone by.

I will admit something to you, Enthusiasts, and I am being completely honest: when I read the headline above, I thought “Willie Mays ran for Congress? Wasn’t he busy being Willie Mays?”

But then I read it; no one would sell him a house because he was black. He hit .333 the year before, with 35 home runs and 39 stolen bases, which was good enough for the All-Star team, but not enough for Bank of America.

  1. Can you tell the address or even neighborhood of this house.

I know that Willie Mays ended up living in the tiny, rich Peninsula town of Atherton. This means that–since Atherton is so small–that Bob Weir grew up right nearby.

The best I can make out is Miralesso Drive. (I’m pretty sure about the Mira, but maybe it’s Miraloma?)

      • I think it’s Miraloma Drive in West Portal. West Portal was “old” San Francisco, the neighborhoods, not the happening downtown Bohemia of North Beach or the Haight. They would have been very bothered by the “wrong” sort of people, who for all I know included Irishmen or something (much less Negroes, bohemian guitarists with suspiciously Mexican surnames, college professors and so forth).

        Very informative

Well, they weren’t wrong about the Irishmen and college professors. Gotta have some standards.

          • There is a new show coming to Fox about a lady drunk. It is called “Mick”. Not to go to far into political correctness, but if you are not Irish please don’t. If you are not Jewish please don’t use the “k” word, and if you are not black then….

If someone is exploring the stereotypes and slurs used against them that is there right, but, since the election open racism is or rise and I am disappointed in my community for not being the shining light on the hill. Sorry too be serious but it’s a slippery slope to the headline you were pointing out.

My first instinct was to defend myself, but I had a cup of coffee and as so often happens my first instinct was sloppy and foolish. You are right. The Irish don’t need my shit; they’ve taken enough.

The historically-dispossessed need to remember each other right now.

I do, however, stand firm on not allowing college professors into the neighborhood. They drag-race their Volvos up and down the street all night.

        • Here’s a clip from the Chronicle website-

“After looking at several houses, Mays offered $37,500 for a new home (on) Miraloma Drive, adjoining St. Francis Wood,”

  2. Ahern to get bigger dope war fund…..?

  3. The area I live in likes to be all underground railroad here, underground railroad there. And sure there was some of that.

Much of it I assume is imaginary. Not every strangely built house had a purpose.

The history books show a different story of our area, Race Riot here, Freedman school burnt there, remnant of black town with … surprise, no more black people living there.

    Etc Etc.

  4. Red lining all over. ‘ merikkka.

If you’ re white you’re alright, if you’re brown stick around, if you’re black step on back.

But we are supposed to accept the fault-right PC of “coming together” or “give him a chance”?

White supremacist as senior advisor the their prez?

    Nope….
