      cannot agree more

    • calling oxymoron on that.

naw, kidding. I’m liking the new rollout of the term “meme”, with the updated definition.

meme1.0 def.: pretentious synonym for “idea”, imagined as an attempt to turf-claim on the discipline of linguistics with improper borrowings from the biological sciences. cf. “branding”.

      (nope.)

meme2.0 def.: any ole radically satirical neologistic wordplay; esp. silly-ass juxtapositions of a visual image with wryly ironic explanatory commentary.

      (yess.)

      • According to Wikipedia, which I’ll admit I trust, a meme is defined as “‘an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture’.[2] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[3]” It derives from the ancient Greek “mimema,” meaning “to imitate.” So yes, you’re correct. They are considered analogous to genes. It may be redundant to add it on to what you’ve said, but I find both definitions important.

Memes have taken on a new meaning on the internet today: “a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc. that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.”

        I like memes.

  2. Stray Cat Blues, kind of the opposite of a certain blues they submitted to Decca Records…

    • I did not realize they actually submitted ********** Blues to Decca.

That’s right along with telling Warner Bros. “we’re calling the album ‘Skullfuck'”
