Thoughts On The Dead

Musings on the Most Ridiculous Band I Can't Stop Listening To

The Way It Was, And Perhaps Will Be

bruce hornsby peachHey, Bruce.

“How you doing? Been a while.”

Yeah. Is that Johnny Drama behind you?

“No idea.”

How’d your summer go?

“Aw, you know: had a blast. Was a Grateful Dead for a while, did some festivals with my band, solo show here and there, snuck in a little family time. It was a good summer; over too quick.”

You run into Trey at all?

“No, but I tell you: we’re gonna do some stuff.”

Like what?

“Hire different drummers, first thing.”

Makes sense.

Also a novel idea.

“Not let Phil sing Terrapin.”

Three in a row.

  1. Bruce Springsteen sux get him off this website

    • P.S. This is not an affront* to Bruce Hornsby. He kicks ass. I hate Bruce Springsteen for absolutely no reason.

*Did I use this word correctly? It’s a stretch, no?

      • Good usage! In Australian Football there is also a shirtfront, which is more violent that an affront.

      • An aggressive scruff of an opponents jumper.

      • I think I’m safe in saying that you are the only teenager on the planet who thinks Bruce Hornsby “kicks ass.”

      • In fact, a shirtfront is hip and shouldering an unsuspecting opponent front on, usually while they are focused on getting the ball. This is still a legal manoeuvre provided no contact is made with the opponent’s head. If contact is made with the head it is a reportable offence. In the old days, such niceties did not apply and it was common to see players KO’d by shirtfronts. When shirtfront is used in the vernacular, as it was by Prime Minister Abbott, in “I will shirtfront Putin”, it is being used in the old school sense.

      • I’m going to drown my sorrows in a river of VB and meat pies. Then shirt front myself

      • i am so proud of you, dear.

  2. My only complaint from the 7/5 Fare Thee Well: WHY IS PHIL SINGING TERRAPIN. Damn near ran out of the stadium.

      Facts presented without opinion:

Phil Lesh, a Grateful Dead, has been singing Terrapin Station for the last sixteen years. Phil Lesh has sung Terrapin Station in every lineup he’s performed it with since the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995.

Things I am only kinda sorta pretty sure about but will just go ahead and present as fact on the internet:

    Phil Lesh is a ventriloquist.

Phil Lesh does a spot on impersonation of bandmates Warren Haynes, Stu Allen, JK, and Bob Wer.

Phil Lesh likes to do this while standing very close to the people he is impersonating. Often while onstage.

While this might give the impression that he is not always singing Terrapin Station that is impossible.

Phil Lesh is always singing Terrapin Station.

Phil Lesh is singing Terrapin Station right now.

You know how sometimes you get a song in your head and you can’t get it out and you don’t know why and sometimes that song is Terrapin Station? Phil Lesh.
