British people pronounced David Bowie’s last name with a “bow,” but Americans say it like “bow.”
Of course, the Brits would read the sign in the picture as “Snickers Bedsit,” so maybe they’re just wrong?

its really messed up the results of searching the interwebs. You turn on safe search you get nothing; turn off safe search and you want to poke out your brain

I almost spat fudge all over my computer, job well done!
Mick Rock captured some really nice shots of Bowie during that period https://a.1stdibscdn.com/archivesE/upload/a_508/37_15/davidbowie_cyrindafoxe_sanfran/DavidBowie_CyrindaFoxe_SanFrancisco1972_2024cMickRock018_l.jpeg
The legendary Cyrinda Foxe!
URL says this was 2/24/72. Dead didn’t have any shows from January ’til March 5 in ’72. (Recording an album?)
Maybe one of the Boys went down to Winterland to check out Ziggy?
When Ziggy and The Spiders played Winterland in 72, it was a famous bomb. Almost no one went. The audience was in the hundreds. SF was not David Bowie territory back then. KSAN, the main rock station, was all hippy-choogly music, never played Bowie, T Rex or any of that other makeup-laden stuff coming out of England. Bowie did not play SF for a long time afterwards.
The only city where Bowie was big back then was Cleveland, because the big Cleveland station played his record. For the rest of America, nada. Pretty much all non-Cleveland Americans discovered Bowie well after the Ziggy era. Whatever they may tell you today.
I was hoping you’d recognize a veiled pleading of ignorance…
Cleveland broke a lot of bands: they loved heavy rock in the Cleve. WMMR, right?

Dead played the Public Hall the month before. They were chasing each other around the country.

Yeah Cleveland..The glory days of FM radio, plus some promoters and some venues, made a good mix.
Not that it mattered too much to me, I lived in Cleveland, but was a little to young, and I cared about pretty much only one band. You get something and miss something with that singular focus.

are there urls for more of those bowie pics at the mars hotel?
